Guess who is now legally able to vote, purchase alcohol and experience the Auckland nightlife? That’s right, it’s me!
I turned 18 during the mid-semester break. I was lucky enough that I was able to be at home for my birthday, meaning I could celebrate with my family and friends. Having everyone who has been with me through different stages of my life come together in one place made me realise how lucky I am to have such a huge support network. It reinforced the fact that they have been with me through thick and thin, and will continue to do so, no matter what.
My dad always comes up with a toast at special occasions, so of course, my 18th was no exception. Not gonna lie, I cried (I’m a very emotional person, don’t judge!). And to make things worse, when Dad finished his speech, I had to do a reply. Let me tell you, it’s not easy coming up with something on the spot in front of a decent crowd of people while you’re trying not to ruin your mascara. It was a bit jumbled at points, but somehow I managed to find words to express my gratitude.
This time round, mid-semester break was 2 weeks long. Hallelujah! I went into it with the attitude of “have a couple of days off, and then get your life together”. Well, that didn’t work out so well… While I did complete my STATS assignment done and did some PSYCH and STATS study, I didn’t do as much as I wanted. But that’s always what happens, isn’t it?

In other news, I got my exam timetable and it looks like the devil incarnate. I have two exams on the same day and all of my exams are within 6 days of each other. On the bright side, I finish about one and a half weeks before exams are officially done, and I’m also able to make it to Race Week back home, which I have always gone to since I was young. It also means I get more holiday time! That’s one of the nice things about university holidays, the summer break is about three and a half to four months long, allowing sufficient time to get a summer job and rake in some cash.
Anyway, I should get back to studying for my STATS test. The lecture book is staring at me.
