Hey Everybody!
By jingoes what a couple of weeks it’s been. Unfortunately I was going to make a video entitled “How To Make Friends At Uni,” but I received a healthy dose of food poisoning the day of the shoot so we’ll just have to leave it until next time :/ BUT instead today I’ll chuck in random tidbit vids of me doing stuff throughout the two weeks and you can do what you want with them. It’s a long one so if I was you I’d probably get a taste and then come back for more later.
Let’s chunk things up a wee bit and start with my actual music degree:
I finished the two songs in one week! And to be honest I reckon I was more stressed out than the bio med students! We had to write a number about someone we admire and after bypassing Helen Keller I chose to write about my sister Nadia! Cute. Here’s a wee looksie at my first draft x:
We had to write a narrative song as well, so naturally I chose to create a story about a boy named Johnny who starts a pub fight, and how he manages to become a professional boxer in order to win back the heart of his lady. Will it happen? I dunno, you’ll just have to buy the album. 😉 It’s pretty difficult to just turn on your creative juices right there and then on the spot, and especially about a topic that they have given you! It’s sort of like Jesus being asked to perform more than one miracle a day. It’s rude and it’s exhausting. BUT nevertheless, I have finished them now and I’m pretty proud of my work in the end which is great. I’m fully frothing the tutorials, which is where we play our songs to the rest of the group and get feedback on what’s good and what’s diabolical. I can already feel me growing as a musician. Apparently I need to chill out when I play the piano tho coz my shoulders are tenser than third wheeling a parental argument (pretty obscure simile there), and also the boss man said I need to work on me lyrics a bit more. I’m developing.
I also started jamming with my main man Michael Allison who’s in his third year of production and we tried a Fat Freddy’s Drop jam as it twere!
I’m also starting up a band AND DON’T KNOW WHAT TO CALL IT! Suggestions below in the comment section would be fantastic! We’ll will be writing a few originals and smashing out covers as well in an effort to get gigs throughout town.
Speaking of gigs I MIGHT be playing in the Auckland Arts Festival within the upcoming week. Vicky’s just going through the process now. On ya Vicky. Vick’s vapour drops. Vicktoria University. Vickson. We’ll just have to see…
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY STARTING THIS FRIDAY I’M GOING TO BE PUTTING OUT A VIDEO EVERY WEEK of me either performing a cover or an original and chucking it up on youtube. So stay primed for a video on my youtube channel 🙂
RIGHT. MOVING ON.
Party Reid is my favourite Reid:
The Marshmello concert was really cool and I was right at the front at the centre. Unfortunately his music didn’t really tickle my gills but I absolutely loved Kings and Sachi before him; so much that I forgot to take a video of them :/ here’s marshmello tho…
WE WENT TO THE BAND DRAX PROJECT FOR WHAT WAS GENUINELY MY FAVOURITE CONCERT OF ALL TIME! The guy’s vocal range was just silly and he played the saxophone as a bass line. Good at life:
St Paddy’s day was a riot:
Yeah and pretty much I partied every day of the week except for one…not advised. It’s caught up on me hard. Currently in recovery season atm…
DAILY LIFE IN AUCKLAND CITY:
Here’s Solitary Walk Number One:
Went to the rugby with me mate Gracey and watched the Crusaders come back to win at the last minute. Everyone erupted! .
In Uni Stuff:
I ran for UH President this week! But was pipped by a much stronger opponent who did a rubiks cube whilst speaking. Yeah. And you thought the northern lights was the coolest thing you’d ever see. Here’s me off the cuff speech tho:
Joined a variety of clubs including meat club, dessert club and the pipe band for goddsake! Playing the bagpipes has always been on my bucket list so this should prove to be really good fun and make it acceptable for me to wear my kilt everywhere.
Oh, and I smashed back 10 sausages in 10 minutes to earn myself a quality meat pack.
Also tried out for the Inter-res Volleyball and Touch teams! Huge laughs had and I didn’t quite make it into volley ball, but I’m still in the selection for touch how good! Here’s a very poor interview:
REID’S LOVE LIFE:
………….
Haha nah I managed to go on a date with a very attractive lady. More info to come ;).
GOOD ON YA FOR STICKING TO THE END. HUGE BLOG THIS WEEK. AND I PROMISE A SHORTER VIDEO WITH A BIT OF PUNCH WILL BE AVAILABLE IN TWO WEEKS ON HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS AT UNIVERSITY WHICH SHOULD EVOKE SOME AMUSEMENT.
Thanks,
Reido.
Kia tatou tomato there,
I just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoy your anecdotal blog, and especially your Auckland walk videos. I am very jealous of your carefree walking style as I am allergic to skyscrapers and pollen, commonly known as high hayfever (you won’t ever catch me planting trees on the sky tower to say the least), so I don’t get out much. Despite being very jealous of your unorthodox walking style, I admire this blog greatly, both for your absolute commitment to producing an enjoyable fortnightly piece of literature for your readers and for the font used in the blog (love a good Calibri on a Sunday morning). Please continue to write this blog or I might have to, against my better judgement, take a lift up your unihall tower and shake some sense into you like professional polaroid developer (and they take their jobs very seriously).
Thoroughly enjoyed your blog today maaaaate.
Honestly felt like I was there, which is great for me having an allergy to retail stores and pine needles (makes it a bit hard to really experience it for myself). Keep blogging and grasping auckland by the metaphorical balls.
